Alokito Haor Foundation is a Bangladesh-based non-profit working for the people of the haor wetlands, especially Austagram in Kishoreganj. Founded and led by a board that combines corporate, legal, humanitarian and international development expertise, we run an integrated programme across seven core areas, and are now moving from community programming into major infrastructure for the region.
Each programme area addresses a distinct barrier facing haor households. Together they form one mutually reinforcing mission.
Wetland-adapted farmer training and advocacy for a dedicated Haor Agro Hub.
A planned hospital, health hotline, and land and water ambulances for the haor.
Dropout prevention, scholarships and play equipment so children stay in school.
Technical training centres and handicraft marketing for independent income.
An 18 metre, three-deck floating hospital bringing doctors, vaccination and maternal care to every village ghat, serving 70 to 120 patients a day.
Bamboo and water-hyacinth cultivation beds that turn flooded months into growing seasons for landless families.
A proposed flood-adapted referral hospital serving five upazilas: Austagram, Itna, Mithamoin, Nikli and surrounding communities.
